Sick, Sick, Sick

On Sunday I got the flu, which seems to happen to me more than I’d like. Actually wasn’t I just blogging about being sick a few months ago? Ok, that was back in June so I guess I don’t get sick that often…but what’s an acceptable amount of sick days per year?
I was really [...]

Reading Aloud

Does having a child make you smarter? Is it possible that caregiving forces caregivers into being mentally svelte? This is my hypothesis for today, and now the ridiculously roundabout way I got to this question:
In yet another sad attempt to fill the void that is my life - while Murray works on other people’s records [...]

“Lost” and I

Being home (and not on tour) has allowed us to fall into some fairly pedestrian routines. Usually centered around some television event, Thursday nights have become Lost night. Previous domestic lock downs have included Hell’s Kitchen, Top Chef, and originated with earlier seasons of Amazing Race (now it sucks).
The thing that doesn’t work very well [...]

Maintenance

Lately I’ve been obsessed with how the internet is defining The Dears. I’ve been assessing some of our online profiles: you know, MySpace, Facebook, CBC Radio 3, Wikipedia. I like things to be up to date, correct and complete. I’ve been updating photos and bios, but have hit the following frustrations:
1. Facebook: I absolutely refuse [...]

Some Things to Read

Nothing earth-shattering, just a few links to help you get through the week. My head is still reeling from a race to the FedEx office to get my grant application off (with success!). Then the car got stuck in the snow while trying to get into two separate parking spots. So come down with me [...]

What I Did Today

Today was very boring, as were the past few days. I’ve been compiling a grant application, and that is a very boring thing to do. Not rockstar at all. I must have just shattered your perception of me. Completely shattered.
I took a break from the grant to vote for The Besnard Lakes at this year’s [...]

No Nods

In a completely half-assed attempt at promotion, I submitted my blog to the SXSW Interactive awards. I guess my rationale was that a nomination would be great exposure. As I mentioned a while back, I had somewhat high hopes. They were apparently way too high. Way, way, WAY too high. SXSW announced their nominations on [...]

Performance Enhancing Drugs

They buried actor Heath Ledger today. He had died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs: a cocktail of anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs and pain killers. I’m no big Heath Ledger fan or anything, but the story of his death is all over the news, and is somewhat unavoidable. There have been a lot of news [...]

Partir, Par Terre

I’ve been spending my free moments filling out these exhaustive forms to collect The Dears’ neighbouring rights royalties. Its a bit of an involved process: I have to list every musician that played on every song we’ve ever recorded. We’ve never done song-by-song album credits, but now I see why some bands do it that [...]

He’s Running for President

The Blogosphere is probably overrun with posts about today, America’s Super Tuesday. I don’t really want to get into it: my opinion, as a Canadian who blogs often about the wily ways of the USA, couldn’t possibly matter much. But in the name of bandwagoneering, here are some thoughts:
If you haven’t figured it out already, [...]
